Basque! Ancient and mysterious but not a forgotten language. Basque, a language that continues to live on in the 21st century.

But why Basque?

There are many whys behind the desire to learn a heritage language.  And there is not one correct reason.  The reason, if it drives you to connect with a language and culture is yours and yours alone.

So, why Basque? Zergatik Euskara? Or Why not? Zergatik ez?

Your why for learning Basque may be the same as mine or it may be completely different.

• It's a unique language.
• It's a minority language.
• Discovered Basque DNA.
• It's an ancient language.
• Hosted a Basque student.
• Have a Basque last name.
• It's your heritage language.
• Not taught Basque as a child.
• Moving to the Basque Country.
• In a relationship with a Basque.
• Traveling to the Basque Country.
• Grew up in an area with Basques.
• Are a Member of an Euskal Etxea.

Here is my why for Basque in Languages.

I am passionate about not only my culture but the language.  Being a daughter of immigrants, having not only a language I used at home but a language I used outside of the home has been my norm.  And I’ve been dedicated to helping others learn languages like Basque, English and Spanish for a long time.

But again, why Basque?

It’s my heritage language. I chased the my dream to learn my family’s language and did it. Many years ago it wouldn't have been possible with the leaders who tried to eliminate the use of the language. But now, with the Internet, you can learn Basque from the comfort of your home anywhere in the world. Zoragarria! Amazing!

And here is my big why and how I plan to do it:

I want to help 1000 English speakers feel excited, confident, at ease, and connected when learning Basque through the New Basque Speaker Club (Euskaldun Berri Elkartea) because I know learning Basque should be a fun, authentic, rewarding, and memorable journey.
